Unverified

Unverified pages document individuals, vehicles, or incidents where there is a credible claim or preliminary evidence that they are connected to ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) or a related federal immigration agency, but where full verification is still in progress.

In all cases, an Unverified designation means one of the following is true:

  • The individual has claimed to be ICE or a federal immigration officer.
  • We have visual, documentary, or contextual evidence strongly suggesting ICE involvement.
  • The available evidence is insufficient to confirm identity, role, or agency beyond doubt.

This status exists to document early-stage or incomplete cases transparently while further verification is underway.

What “Unverified” does — and does not — mean

Unverified DOES mean:

  • There is a real basis for linking the subject to ICE or immigration enforcement.
  • The claim or evidence was not invented, speculative, or random.
  • Further verification is actively possible and encouraged.

Unverified does NOT mean:

  • A rumor with no supporting basis.
  • A guess made without evidence.
  • That the subject is “probably not ICE.”
  • That the entry is false.

If a page exists, it is because there is a legitimate reason to believe ICE involvement may be present.

Why pages remain Unverified

A page may remain Unverified when:

  • The individual’s identity cannot yet be confirmed publicly.
  • Employment confirmation (e.g. agency listing, official document, employment record) is missing.
  • The available media lacks sufficient resolution or context.
  • The agency involved cannot yet be conclusively distinguished (ICE vs CBP vs HSI vs ERO).
  • Additional corroboration is required to meet project verification standards.

How volunteers can help

Strengthen verification

Look for:

  • Employment confirmation (LinkedIn, official bios, court records, FOIA releases)
  • Official documents naming the individual or unit
  • Clear media showing badges, unit identifiers, agency markings, or vehicles
  • Reporting that explicitly names ICE or confirms agency involvement

Improve evidence quality

Helpful actions include:

  • Replacing cropped clips with full-length source video
  • Uploading higher-resolution images
  • Adding context explaining what is known and what is not
  • Clearly separating confirmed facts from unresolved questions

Correct or clarify

If evidence points away from ICE or shows a misattribution:

  • Document the correction with sources
  • Update the page summary accordingly
  • Flag the issue clearly on the talk page
  1. Review the claims made on the page.
  1. Identify what evidence currently supports each claim.
  1. Add reliable sources that directly support those claims.
  1. Update the summary to reflect only what is supported.
  1. Once standards are met, update the verification status.
