Deportation agent

On ICE List, a deportation agent is anyone who carries out or directly supports the arrest, custody, case processing or physical removal of people from the United States. In most cases this refers to officers working for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), but the term also includes local law enforcement officers enforcing immigration law under agreements such as 287(g).

Deportation agents are a core focus of ICE List. They frequently appear in videos, news stories and court documents connected to arrests, raids, detention operations and removal flights.

Typical job titles and roles

Many different roles fall under the umbrella of “deportation agent.” Common examples include:

  • Deportation Officer (DO)
  • Detention and Deportation Officer (DDO)
  • Supervisory Detention and Deportation Officer (SDDO)
  • ERO officer in any rank
  • Local sheriff’s deputies or police officers engaged in deportation work through 287(g) or similar agreements

Support staff may also fall under this role if their primary work directly enables or assists deportation operations.

How ICE List uses this role

An agent is classified as a deportation agent on ICE List if:

  • Their job title or public record clearly places them within ICE ERO, or
  • Their documented actions support or carry out detention or deportation work, or
  • They are local law enforcement formally empowered to enforce federal immigration law.

Agent pages should set the role field to point here using:

| role = Deportation agent

This ensures consistent labeling across the database.
