ICE List: Volunteer Guide
This guide walks new volunteers through how to contribute safely, accurately, and consistently across the ICE List project.
1. Read the Data Standards
Before making edits, start with the standards:
- [[ICE List:Data Standards]]
This ensures consistency and prevents formatting drift across pages.
2. Create or Improve Pages
Volunteers commonly:
- create new agent pages,
- upload screenshots or footage,
- link incidents to agents,
- fix spelling, formatting, and categorisation.
3. Verification Work
Volunteers assisting verification should:
- compare images to uniforms, insignia, and common agency gear,
- match locations using landmarks,
- confirm dates with metadata or reporting,
- mark items as “Unverified” unless evidence is solid.
4. Reporting Problems
If you see formatting issues, duplicated pages, wrong categories, or broken templates, report them through:
- [[ICE List:Submit issue]]
5. Safety Notes
Never contact agents directly. Never reveal your identity while collecting material. Never attempt field work alone. Always follow local laws when documenting public activity.
