Verification System

The ICE List uses a strict, transparent system to classify all information that appears on agent, incident, facility, vehicle and contractor pages. Verification status is designed to help the public understand how confident we are in each piece of information, and what type of evidence it is based on.

Why Verification Matters

Immigration enforcement happens across hundreds of agencies, sub-agencies and local partners. Because the government offers almost no public transparency, verification ensures:

  • accountability,
  • consistency,
  • protection of contributors, and
  • clear separation between sourced facts and unconfirmed reports.

Verification Categories

Verified

Information is supported by at least one solid piece of evidence, such as:

  • official documentation,
  • FOIA-released material,
  • direct video or photographic evidence,
  • identifiable insignia or agency markings,
  • reliable news reporting,
  • consistent multi-source confirmation.

Pages may still evolve over time, but the core details have been confirmed.

In Progress

Information is plausible but not yet backed by strong verification. If used, this will only appear on pages with names only, and will not have any identifiable information beyond a name, including the state, incident, vehicle or office. This status appears when:

  • the team is reviewing submissions,
  • evidence is partial or unclear,
  • multiple reports agree but confirmation is pending,
  • a contributor provides media that still needs analysis.

Unverified

This is the status given to agents we have no lead on. We may have seen this agent in the video of a raid, but for some reason, cannot get a look at their face. Many unverified entries become verified once more data arrives.

How Verification Changes

Every page displays its current verification state. When new information arrives (photos, documents, better location data, new reporting), the ICE List team updates status accordingly. All changes are logged through normal MediaWiki page histories.

Contributing Evidence

Anyone can help verification by submitting:

  • images or video with clear views of insignia, badges or vehicles,
  • timestamps and locations,
  • links to reporting,
  • documentation,
  • corrections or clarifications.
