Privacy Policy
ICE List Wiki is an independently maintained, volunteer-driven documentation project. We are committed to minimizing data collection, protecting contributors, and being transparent about what information is stored and why.
This page explains what data we collect, how it is used, and what control users have over their information.
User accounts
ICE List Wiki does not allow public account creation.
All user accounts:
- Are manually created or approved by site administrators
- Are granted only to verified volunteers or trusted contributors
- Exist solely for the purpose of contributing to the project
There is no open registration, automated sign-up, or public user onboarding.
What information we collect
Account information
For approved users, the following information is stored:
- Username
- Encrypted password
- User permissions and roles
- Edit history associated with the account
Email addresses may be stored only if voluntarily provided and are used exclusively for administrative communication, account recovery, or coordination related to the project.
Contributions and edit history
All edits made to the wiki are logged and publicly visible, including:
- Username
- Timestamp of the edit
- Edit summary
- Content added or removed
This is standard MediaWiki behavior and is essential for transparency, verification, and accountability.
IP addresses
- IP addresses are logged for logged-out edits
- For logged-in users, IP addresses are visible only to site administrators
IP data is used strictly for abuse prevention, spam mitigation, and site security. It is not sold, shared, or used for tracking.
Automatically collected technical data
The server may temporarily log basic technical information such as:

These logs are used for security, performance monitoring, and debugging only.
What we do NOT collect
ICE List Wiki does not:

- Track users across websites
- Collect real names, physical addresses, or identity documents as a requirement of use
Data collection is intentionally kept to the absolute minimum required to operate the site.
Cookies
ICE List Wiki uses essential cookies only, required for:

No tracking, profiling, or advertising cookies are used.
How information is used
Collected information is used only to:
- Operate and secure the wiki

ICE List Wiki documents matters of public interest related to immigration enforcement.
Contributors should assume that:
- All contributions are public
- Edit histories are permanent
- Content may be mirrored or archived by third parties beyond our control
If contributing sensitive information, users are expected to follow project guidelines and exercise appropriate caution.
Account removal
Accounts may be disabled or removed by administrators upon request or if no longer required.
Please note:
- Accounts can be deactivated
- Edit histories cannot be deleted or anonymized, as they form part of the public historical record
Data retention
- Account data is retained while the account is active
- Server logs are retained only as long as necessary for security and maintenance
- Disabled accounts retain their edit history for integrity and accountability purposes
GDPR and data protection (EU)
ICE List Wiki operates in the public interest and seeks to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) where applicable.
Lawful basis for processing
Under Article 6 of the GDPR, ICE List Wiki processes limited personal data on the following lawful bases:
- Legitimate interest – to operate, secure, and maintain the integrity of a public-interest documentation project
- Consent – where users voluntarily provide optional information (such as an email address)
- Public interest, freedom of expression, and archiving – for the documentation, verification, and long-term preservation of information relating to immigration enforcement
Only the minimum amount of data necessary to fulfill these purposes is processed.
Data subject rights
Under GDPR, individuals may have the right to:
- Access personal data held about them
- Request correction of inaccurate personal data
- Request restriction of processing in specific circumstances
- Object to certain forms of processing
- Withdraw consent where consent was the lawful basis
Requests may be submitted to the site administrators through the project’s official contact channels.
Limits to erasure and anonymization
ICE List Wiki maintains a permanent public revision history as part of its journalistic and archival function.
As a result:
- Edit histories cannot be deleted or retroactively anonymized
- Content forming part of the public record may not be erased where removal would undermine transparency, accountability, or historical integrity
- Requests for erasure are assessed on a case-by-case basis, balancing individual rights against the public interest
These limitations are consistent with GDPR exemptions for freedom of expression, information, and archiving in the public interest.
Data minimization and security
ICE List Wiki applies strict data minimization practices:
- No unnecessary personal data is collected
- Access to technical data such as IP addresses is restricted to site administrators
- Administrative access is limited to trusted project operators only
International access and processing
ICE List Wiki is accessible globally. Depending on server location and administrator access, data may be processed or accessed outside the European Union.
All processing is carried out in accordance with the principles described in this policy.
Supervisory authorities
If you believe your data protection rights under GDPR have been violated, you may have the right to lodge a complaint with your local EU data protection authority.
Users are encouraged to contact the project administrators first so concerns can be addressed directly and transparently.
Children
ICE List Wiki is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors.
Changes to this policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated as the project evolves. All changes are recorded in the page history.
